Mary Virginia Mebane

Mrs. Mary Virginia Mebane, 85, of Buena Vista, TN, departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving daughters. Mrs. Mebane was born on August 29, 1939 in Henning, TN to the late Franklin Bates Sullivan and the late Margaret Elizabeth Faulk Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne, their son, Hal, and her late husband, Henry Peter Scott IV. Mary is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Mark) Totty of Camden, TN, Amy (Wayne) Dawson of Franklin, TN, Kippy (Dale) Alberts of St. Petersburg, FL, and Terry Haynes of Little Gasparilla Island, FL; her siblings, Jenny Ruth Crihfield of Memphis, TN, Bettye (Mike) Haynes of Dallas, TX. William Frank (Mary Alice) Sullivan Jr. of Calhoun, GA; her grandchildren, Evan (Samantha) Totty of Washington, DC, Hannah Alexander (and fiancé Drew) of Chattanooga, TN, Michael Totty (and fiancé Katherin) of Baltimore, MD, Abbey (Dylan) Goins of Nashville, TN, and Gabrielle (Christopher) Mincone of New York City, NY, and great grandson, Owen Totty of Washington, DC.

Mary devoted her life to education. She was a graduate of Ripley High School and attended Lambuth College. Mary later graduated from Bethel University with a degree in education and enjoyed many years teaching elementary school as a fourth grade teacher at Hollow Rock Bruceton Elementary.

Mary loved gardening, reading, and playing the piano. She also loved the beach, traveling. and could never pass up a good dessert. But what she loved most was spending time with her family and friends. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of the Bruceton First Baptist Church, devoting many years to teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. 

Visitation will be held at Bruceton Funeral Home on Saturday, September 14th from 3 pm - 6 pm and Sunday, September 15th 11 am - 1:45 pm followed by funeral service at 2 pm at Bruceton First Baptist Church.
